Kim Harrell remarks on her first solo exhibition, as seen in this catalog: "The collection of works in Back to the Garden was an homage to the power of nature and my personal spiritual beliefs about our connectedness to everything in the universe; everything is everything. I find this connectedness most profound in the act of working in the garden and creating art. It is experiential, spiritual, analogous and bound to the laws of the natural world which we have little control over and struggle to find harmony. This work is also informed by my interest in archetypes as represented by color, texture, form, and material and retain my signature emphasis on line and simplicity. Fabricated in fine and sterling silver, wood, beeswax, honey bee wings, sunflower seeds, dirt from my garden, and gold, all of the pieces have meaning beyond their actual or suggested function."
